ChatKeep — Privacy Policy

Backup & search for your ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini conversations.

The short version: ChatKeep stores your conversations on your own device and nowhere else. It has no server, no account system, and no analytics. It contains no code that can transmit your data anywhere.

1. What ChatKeep does

ChatKeep is a browser extension that reads the conversations you have on chatgpt.com, claude.ai and gemini.google.com and saves a copy into your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) so you can search, read and export them later.

2. What we collect

Nothing. There is no data collection. ChatKeep does not have, use, or request any:

Server, backend, or API endpoint
Analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting
Advertising or tracking technology
Account or sign-in system

Your conversations, titles, and settings never leave your device. Deleting the extension (or using "Delete all…" in the library) permanently erases everything.

3. What the extension accesses

To build your backup, ChatKeep's content script reads the text of conversations displayed on the three supported chat websites. This access is:

Read-only — ChatKeep never types, clicks, submits, or modifies anything
Limited to three hosts — chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com
Local-only — read data is processed in your browser and stored on your device

The extension does not access any other website, and does not read page content beyond the conversation text needed for your backup.

4. Permissions

storage / unlimitedStorage — keeps your backup and settings on your device.
content_scripts on the three hosts above — reads conversation text for the backup.

ChatKeep requests no other permissions and declares no broader host access.

5. Data sharing and sale

Your data is never sold, rented, shared, transferred, or used for advertising or model training. There is no third party to share it with: the data exists only in your browser.

6. Children's privacy

ChatKeep does not knowingly collect any information from anyone — including children — because it collects nothing at all.

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Changes that would alter how data is handled will also be reflected in the extension's store listing.
